Making the decision to take control of my autoimmune disease was one of the best decisions I ever made.  The second best decision was to get my body back into shape, after years of fighting my disease.  Now, I want to help you to do the same.

Today, January 4, 2016, I’m starting my first Warrior Fit Challenge Group. This is a private, members only, Facebook group, where we share encouragement, fitness tips, healthy recipes, and success stories with each other.  As your Beachbody Coach, I provide you with a safe, nonjudgemental space to ask questions, and get advice on everything from healthy eating to the best Beachbody program to fit your lifestyle and personality.  I will be following the Master’s Hammer and Chisel program, as part of my fitness challenge.  There is a program to fit everyone, even if you haven’t exercised in a long time.  Heck, I hadn’t worked out in two years, before I started back up again!  If you’re interested in joining us, simply fill out the contact form below.

Now, let’s say you want to join, but you need a little more time to let things sink in.  No problem!  I’ll be hosting a new Warrior Fit Challenge Group every two weeks.  So, you could always join my group, starting on January 18th.  But, don’t wait too long.  I have a feeling these groups are going to fill up fast.

FAQs

Why do I have to do Beachbody DVD programs?

I have everyone doing Beachbody programs because they are easy to follow, come with meal plans, and are effective.  There is a Beachbody program for everyone.  Also, they are very affordable.

What if I need help choosing a program?

I would be happy to help you choose the best program to fit your lifestyle and personality.  When you fill out the contact form, leave me a message, letting me know you need my help.  I will send you a Warrior Fit questionnaire to fill out and return to me.  Based on your answers, I will suggest a couple of programs for you.  You can then check out those programs Here, by clicking on the Shop button, and then clicking on each program listed under Fitness Programs. We’ll keep looking until we find the best one for you.

What if I’m on the AIP?

No problem! You’ll be included in my AI Warrior Challenge Group. The main difference is that I will not suggest you drink the Shakeology shakes, which are not AIP approved.  The meal plans will be the same, except you will be eating AIP foods.  I will also suggest you take it slow, in the beginning.  Once we see how the added exercise is affecting you, we can reassess your program.

How much do the Beachbody Programs Cost?

The program DVDs tend to cost around $60, for the set.  There are also extra DVDs and equipment packages you can purchase as well, for a discounted price.  If you’re not following the AIP, you can purchase a Challenge Pack, at a heavily discounted price, that includes Shakeology, and a free 30 day membership to TeamBeachbody.  The average price of a Challenge pack is $160.  As you can see, this is much cheaper than a gym membership or sessions with a personal trainer.  Plus, you get to do it all from the comfort of your own home!

What do I get with you as my Beachbody Coach? 

You get someone with almost 30 years experience in the fitness industry.  I have been a fitness trainer since the 1980’s.  My first job was working in gym, teaching members how to use the equipment.  I was actually training for a fitness competition when I was diagnosed with lupus.  Through my discipline and hard work, I’ve been able to regain and increase my fitness levels, after two years of battling lupus.  In fact, I’ve been able to put my lupus into full remission.  You will get a coach who will encourage you, without allowing you to make excuses.  Excuses will not help you to reach your goals.  I am here to make sure you reach them!

Instant Pot Smothered Cajun Greens Recipe

Today, I have a nice, easy Instant Pot recipe for you, Smothered Cajun Greens.  This recipe is an easy way to get some color on your plate.  My Instant Pot has given me a way to cut my cooking time down to 20 minutes! That’s a time savings of over an hour!

Instant Pot Smothered Cajun Greens Recipe

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cook Time: 20 minutes

Total Time: 35 minutes

Yield: 4 servings

Serving Size: about 1 cup

These flavorful greens can be cooked Cajun style in less than 30 minutes. You can serve them as a side, or as a main dish.

Ingredients

  • 6 cups raw greens (collard, mustard, turnip, spinach, kale, etc.)
  • 1 turnip, chopped
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 pound fully cooked, uncured ham, cut into large chunks
  • 1 tablespoon animal fat ( I used bacon fat)
  • 2 teaspoons (about 2 cloves) crushed garlic
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup poultry broth ( bone broth, if you have it)

Instructions

  1. Place all ingredients into Instant Pot
  2. Close lid.
  3. Press Manual button and set to 20 minute cook time.
  4. Press Pressure button to set on high pressure.
  5. When done cooking, turn off Instant Pot.
  6. Allow pressure to reduce naturally for 10 minutes.
  7. Turn pressure valve to Venting.
  8. Open lid once all pressure is released.
  9. Stir.
  10. Serve.

I use it practically every day, sometimes two or three times a day.  If you’ve been considering getting one, do it.  I have no idea how I lived without for so long.  I used to watch my grandmother cook in hers.  All I knew was that she was using the pot that hissed, spit, and made a lot of noise.  Little did I know then how brilliant she was.  Now that I have my Instant Pot, I know exactly how smart she was!

Day Nine of The 21-Day Sugar Detox & Giveaway

Okay, so I know I was supposed to have this fantastic new recipe for you today.  But, a friend called me up today and asked if I would make an appearance at her gluten free event tonight.  I love crashing a good party; so, I went.  I will have the recipe for you tomorrow.

This gluten free event was held at Zeal restaurant in Schaumburg, IL.  I had the great pleasure of meeting Tiffany Hinton, Gluten Free Mom Certified, and her husband, Will.  They were so sweet.  You should check out her website.  It’s filled with simple and tasty recipes, online classes to teach you how to cook gluten free for your family, cookbooks, and more.  Next week, we will be hosting a giveaway of one of her ebooks.

Her latest cookbook, Gluten Free Mom Certified Celebrates Heritage,  is a combination of recipes from she and her husband’s heritage, with all recipes converted to gluten free.  As soon as I saw the recipe for Fried Okra, I knew I had to have this book.  There are amazing southern recipes in this cookbook.  Featured are recipes such as Pecan Sticky Rolls, Mac n Cheese, and Chicken Fried Pork Chops.  It’s a keeper!

Lunch was a delicious salad of mixed greens, sardines, olives, and avocado with balsamic vinegar and olive oil.

I had dinner at Zeal restaurant, after the gluten free event. Chef Vince offers a standard gluten free menu, and created specials for the event.  I had the Amish Chicken with Grilled Vegetables in Balsamic Sauce.  Unfortunately, I forgot to take a photo before I started eating; so, this was all that was left by the time I remembered.  I couldn’t eat the peppers because of my aversion to nightshades.  The chicken, grilled zucchini and yellow squash were delicious.  I would definitely eat here again.

Once home, I found myself in need of a little snack.  I bought these Chia Pods yesterday at Fresh Market.  I am allowed all of the ingredients, even on The 21-Day Sugar Detox.  I tried the Cinnamon Vanilla flavor.  The only ingredients are chia seeds, coconut milk, vanilla bean, and cinnamon.  The best part was I actually liked it.  Because there is no sugar, the flavor is not overly sweet.  I’m not big on sweets; so, the amount of sweetness was perfect.  Oh, and in case you’re wondering, yes, that is the Blackhawks game in the background. Go Hawks!
