Day 4 dinner on The 21-Day Sugar Detox- Cilantro Lime Chicken & Big salad

Today, I’m reminded why I love this detox so much.  I feel phenomenal!  Although I’ve been following a pretty strict paleo diet, introducing foods into my diet really takes a toll on my body.  When you have an autoimmune disease, any food can trigger your symptoms.  Problem is, you don’t know what food is going to be the culprit until you eat it.  It’s good to clean out your body once in awhile.

The first time I did The 21-Day Sugar Detoxthe 21-day sugar detox Day Four of The 21-Day Sugar Detox ir t boanmo05 20 l as2 o 1 a 1936608111 was in January of this year.  I think every three months is a good enough amount of time between detox treatments.  If I were perfectly healthy, I wouldn’t have to do it as often.  But, with lupus, I have to be diligent with my diet.  I would suggest the same for anyone suffering from an autoimmune disease.

What did I eat today on The 21-Day Sugar Detoxthe 21-day sugar detox Day Four of The 21-Day Sugar Detox ir t boanmo05 20 l as2 o 1 a 1936608111?

Lunch was leftover Spicy Cajun Slaw.  I added a can of Wild Albacore Tunathe 21-day sugar detox Day Four of The 21-Day Sugar Detox ir t boanmo05 20 l as2 o 1 a B002EY5TTW, a cucumber, and more Tabascothe 21-day sugar detox Day Four of The 21-Day Sugar Detox ir t boanmo05 20 l as2 o 1 a B0004LZSYS.  It was positively delicious!  I washed it down with a small glass of Kombuchathe 21-day sugar detox Day Four of The 21-Day Sugar Detox ir t boanmo05 20 l as2 o 1 a B0016BAA4S.

For dinner, I baked my Cilantro Lime Chicken (recipe below).  I ate my chicken with a BIG salad of mixed greens, avocado, and cucumber, with a little balsamic vinegar and olive oil.  Both I and my dog, Giddy, enjoyed the chicken.  She loves Mama’s chicken!

The Paleo Approach One Month Results

The Paleo Approach Results

Well, I’ve been following The Paleo Approach diet for an entire month, as of today.  Over the course of this past month, I’ve definitely had my ups and downs.  And, because not all my symptoms have disappeared, I’ve decided to continue on, without adding new foods into my diet.

Now, don’t get me wrong. I do feel much better, today.  But, three days ago, I didn’t feel so hot. I awoke with joint pain in my left hip and both knees.  In fact, my joints were so swollen, they popped when I moved them. This went on for two days.  I couldn’t walk without serious discomfort.  Kneeling in church yesterday, was excruciating.  Then, out of the blue, this morning, they were fine.

There is also the matter of my rashes and hives.  My worst rash, although much better, is still not completely healed.  And, I am getting the occasional hive breakout.  Plus, my allergy response is still pretty high, with sneezing and a runny nose.

All of this tells me that I am still in the process of healing.  To add foods to my diet that could bring on a reaction,  would not be helpful to my recovery.  So, I will continue on with my elimination diet, unchanged.

I have noticed significant improvement in all of my belly issues.  I don’t get heartburn, gas, and bloating anymore.  I also haven’t had diarrhea or been constipated all month long.  And, I’ve lost another 5 pounds.  It’s an awesome feeling when your gut is cooperating! I’ve added two supplements to my regimen that I believe are really helping to heal my gut.  The first is Probiotics.  These are the ones I take, Nutrition Now Pb 8 Pro-biotic Acidophilus – 120 Capsules (120)the paleo approach The Paleo Approach One Month Results ir t boanmo05 20 l as2 o 1 a B005P0NZVG
The second is OX bile.  If you’ve had your gallbladder removed, or if yours isn’t working the way it should, you may want to consider taking this supplement.  It helps your body to produce the bile needed to digest your foods properly.  I had my gallbladder out 15 years ago.  Since then, I never knew when something I ate would send me rushing to a bathroom.  I wish someone had told me about Ox Bile back then!  With these two little pills, I’m able to digest my foods properly, without suffering.  I use these, Ox Bile 125 mg 180 Capsulesthe paleo approach The Paleo Approach One Month Results ir t boanmo05 20 l as2 o 1 a B003GHA5GS
I actually have mine on scheduled delivery from Amazon, to be sure I never miss my dose.  I started by taking one with lunch and 2 with dinner.  Now, I take 2 with lunch and 2 or 3 with dinner, depending on how much fat I’m eating with my meal.  It’s best to start your dosage low, and then, increase as you see how your body deals with it.

My skin has also improved dramatically!  I have completely eliminated my butterfly rash!  Also, I have faded my facial discolorations from vitiligo to help them blend into my skintone better.  And, the rashes on my palms and fingers, are under control and much less noticeable.  In fact, unless you know they’re there, you wouldn’t even notice them.  I know diet has helped clear my skin.  But, I also know that changing my skincare products to only include non-toxic, natural products was necessary to help me heal.  I have a few products for sale that I created to heal my skin.  I sell them through my etsy shop, if you’re interested.  I know, not everyone is big on making products themselves.  That’s why I created these, Orange I Beautiful Vitamin C Toner, Orange I Beautiful Vitamin C Anti-Aging Serum, and Heal My Skin Lavender Salt Soak.  Each batch is made to order, to ensure the freshest product for you.  I priced them with a low introductory price so everyone could afford to try them.  What good are quality products, if the people who need them most, can’t afford them?  Also, if you purchase them at the introductory price, you are grandfathered in, at that price.   That means, your price never goes up!  These products worked great for me.  That’s why I wanted to share them with you.

Other than those couple of days of joint pain, I’ve noticed an improvement in my mobility.  My hands, in particular, are not as painful as they used to be.  I used to have so much pain in them, I could barely move my fingers some days.  My reaction, during those two days of joint pain, may have been caused by a change in weather or temperature. It was much warmer, on those two days, than it’s been in quite some time.  I do have significant, diagnosed arthritis in my left knee.  It’s completely possible that I also have it in my right knee and left hip.  It could be a totally different issue than my lupus.  Because I didn’t change my diet before the joint pain increased, I’m inclined to think it had more to do with the weather than my diet.

So, after only a month following The Paleo Approach, I can report great improvement.  I know not every day is going to bring lollypops and roses.  I know I still have a lot of healing yet to do.  But, I feel better!  And, that’s worth so much!

If you’re on the same journey as I am, you may have discovered the same results.  Many of your symptoms may have subsided.  But, you’re still dealing with the occasional flare.  Or, perhaps your symptoms have completely disappeared.  If that’s the case, congratulations!  I’m so happy for you!  Or, you could have noticed no change in your symptoms at all.  If this is you, please email me personally at tmoperillo@gmail.com.  I would love to work with you to see if we can figure out what’s going wrong. Maybe, I can help you to tweak things to get better results.

Although this elimination phase is pretty restrictive,  I haven’t really felt like I’m missing out on very much.  I’ve been working hard to create delicious recipes with AIP approved ingredients.  I’ve actually had some pretty amazing meals!  Hopefully, you’ve been able to enjoy some of my recipes.  I’m going to keep them coming to you.

I would love if you could share some of your results in the comments.  You could let me know what topics you’d like to see more information about.  In my next blog post, I will give you tips on how to keep eating paleo when your symptoms are still flaring.  I know, it can be difficult to stay on such a restrictive eating regimen.  I do it every day!  There is no cheating for us! Cheating means pain and suffering!  Hopefully, my tips can get you through it, when the going gets tough.

You can do this!  Keep going!  Be strong!  We WILL heal ourselves!
