I’m done!  Well, I made it through.  Day 21 is at an end.  Tomorrow, I can resume my regular diet.  And, believe me, I will.

I already have a few meals planned.  First, I’m going to have Mexican food tomorrow, for lunch.  Of course, I will also be enjoying my Omission gluten free beer.  I’m also going to defrost a piece of my Coconut Pecan Bread Pudding.  Because I was already on the detox when I made it, I chose to freeze a few servings for after the sugar detox.  I’m very glad I did that. Day One of The 21-Day Sugar Detox

Today is day one of The 21-Day Sugar Detox for me.  This is my second time doing this particular detox program.  My first detox was really successful.  In fact, this is the detox I used when I first decided to go paleo.

If it worked so well the first time, why am I having to do it again?  I’m doing it again because it worked so well the first time.  After I completed The 21-Day Sugar Detox, I was able to easily transition into the Autoimmune Approach diet, 100%.  Once many of my symptoms had been relieved, I began to add forbidden foods back into my diet.  Some of these food items were successfully added back, like eggs, goat/sheep dairy, seeds, and nuts.  However, some foods caused a flare of my old symptoms.  These foods were from the nightshade group of foods which includes tomatoes and peppers.  I was also unsuccessful at adding dairy from cows.

I felt, after all the food testing, it was time to detox.  Plus, I have my big 45th birthday coming up next month.  I want to feel clean and healthy when that day comes.  So, that’s why I’m doing The 21-Day Sugar Detox again.

I am doing some things differently than I did the first time.  I am not restricting myself by following the autoimmune modifications.  Since I’ve been able to add eggs, seeds and nuts into my diet, I’m going to continue to eat them.  I will continue to avoid nightshades, though.

Also, I will be adding exercise to my detox.  Last time I did the detox, I was unable to add any fitness because of my illness.  This time, I’ll be able to add yoga, walking, and ballet barre.  I’m really excited to see the results from that little add-in.

What did I eat on Day One? 

As some of you may know already, I don’t eat breakfast, typically.  I practice intermittent fasting; so, I only eat within eight hours of every day.  I’ll do a blog post about that at another time.  What I’m trying to tell you, is that I have no breakfast tips for you.

For lunch, I ate a can of Wild Sardines in Extra Virgin Olive Oilthe 21-day sugar detox Day One of The 21-Day Sugar Detox ir t boanmo05 20 l as2 o 1 a B004VDH4L0 with a squeeze of lime and half an avocado.  Not much, I know. I was working and really didn’t have time to prepare anything.  I only decided to do this detox last Friday.  It was kind of spontaneous.

Dinner was much better.  I ate a huge Balsamic Herb Chicken Salad.  I simply made a salad with some mixed greens, cucumber, avocado and pecans. I tossed it with Balsamic Vinegarthe 21-day sugar detox Day One of The 21-Day Sugar Detox ir t boanmo05 20 l as2 o 1 a B0000ZRGL6 and Extra Virgin Olive Oilthe 21-day sugar detox Day One of The 21-Day Sugar Detox ir t boanmo05 20 l as2 o 1 a B0060JMVM0.  Then, I grilled a chicken breast, sprinkled with oregano, salt and pepper, sliced it and laid the slices over the salad. Yum!

Unfortunately, I didn’t get to exercise today.  My hip was causing a bit of pain for me today.  I felt it was best to rest it.  Sometimes it’s better not to aggravate our symptoms.

How To Get Started Eating Paleo

We are all brought to eating paleo for different reasons.  For some of us, eating paleo is a way to alleviate our symptoms.  For others, it is simply a way to eat healthier or lose some weight.  No matter what brought you to paleo eating,  the hardest part can be getting started.

We read little tidbits, here and there.  We research the rules of eating paleo.  We go out and purchase tons of fruits, veggies, and grass fed meats.

But, then, what do we do? 

For me, the greatest help, was finding a program I could easily follow.  I also wanted a program that would address my carb cravings.  Although I had gone gluten-free months before,  I was eating lots of gluten-free breads, corn chips, pretzels, and pasta.  I would also need a paleo program that would work with my special autoimmune needs.

.  Her program had everything I needed.  I ordered her book from Amazon immediately.

Every month, Diane begins a new group to do The 21-Day Sugar Detox, together.  If you like group support, I highly recommend starting your program with one of these groups.  She posts daily motivation, check-ins, and updates through emails and Facebook.  I’ll provide the links at the end of this post.

Reading these posts can give you a sense of what it’s like to follow a paleo program.  It’s much easier than trying to go about eating paleo on your own.  And, following this particular program, can help you get rid of those sugar and carb cravings.

My decision, after following The 21-Day Sugar Detox, was to continue eating paleo.  The fact that I felt so much better made it a pretty easy decision for me.  It is so much easier to follow a pre-set program, than to try to do things on your own.
