It’s been about eight months since I began eating paleo. Today, I am happy to report most of my symptoms are in remission. In fact, other than the random cross contamination caused flare, I no longer suffer from the symptoms that plagued me for many years.
The real turning point came for me when the painful, itchy rash I had been tormented by, simply disappeared. This horrific rash had, for three years, made my life a living hell. It would constantly go through a routine of flaking, crusting, bleeding, and itching. None of the medications my doctor provided ever helped. I was prescribed the strongest steroidal cream available. It didn’t help. Then, last week, my evil rash was gone!
Even my joint pain, arthritic joints included, has subsided. My extreme fatigue has been replaced with the energy I need to keep going each day. The rashes on my hands and face have also healed. My stomach ulcer is gone. I don’t suffer from gerd anymore. All of my stomach and intestinal issues have vanished.
I think it’s pretty safe to say, my health has greatly improved. Through the use of paleo nutrition, natural remedies, and lifestyle changes, I have been able to detox and restore my body. With these changes, I have reduced my inflammation and lost 25 pounds. So, not only do I feel better, I look better.
Now, I know what you’re thinking. I used to be you, reading about someone else who recovered from their autoimmune disease after following a specific diet and lifestyle change. I didn’t totally believe it then. I didn’t even believe it while I was doing it. After all, I was still in agony with many of my symptoms. But, I persevered. Deep down in my soul, I wanted to get better. I went through flare ups and setbacks. Still, I did not quit.
Today, I am thrilled I did not give up. I am a true lupus warrior!
Of course, I am not done yet. It is now time to rebuild the beast. Let me explain what I mean by “rebuilding the beast”.
My symptoms reached the critical state while I was training for my first fitness competition. Every day, I did Crossfit, weight training, and/or high impact interval training. I was a beast! I worked out for hours a day, trying to get my body into optimal shape. I was strong, fit, and powerful. And then, it all fell apart. If you want the whole story, you can read my post, Can Getting Rid Of Inflammation Help You Lose Weight. Anyway, I ended up in the hospital, and with a lupus diagnosis. Well, if you’ve been following this blog, you know the rest.
It is now time to rebuild the beast I once was. Over the last few weeks, I have been increasing my workout intensity, speed, and frequency. I’m doing it slowly and carefully. In the next few months, I will occasionally post updates on my rebuilding efforts. These efforts not only include workouts, but nutritional changes to fuel my recovering body. I’m on a mainly autoimmune protocol paleo diet because I don’t want to cause too much trauma to my immune system while upping my exercise. When you’re placing additional stress on your body, as in exercising, you want to lessen your body’s inflammation response. By adding inflammatory foods, your body may move into hyper-autoimmune mode again. Trust me, that is not something you want.
It’s going to take experimentation, on my part, to get the rebuilding formula just right. I’ll continue to provide you with updates as I move forward.
You don’t have to have been a beast to benefit from this information. If you take the time and put forth the effort to follow the autoimmune paleo diet and lifestyle changes, there will come the day when you need to rebuild your body to what it was before you became ill. Or, perhaps, you want to rebuild your body to what you’ve always wanted it to be. You’re going to need to know how to do it. I’d like to help you with that.
I am now a believer. I know it is possible to heal autoimmune disease. I’m living proof! There is hope for all of you. All you have to do is take that first step!
Now, if you’ll excuse me, it’s time to feed The Beast!
